Glamping In Shropshire
South Shropshire’s first locally built Camping Pods are now open at The Kings Head located in the centre of the delightful market town of Bishop’s Castle. The town has a strong agricultural community as well as becoming known for its alternative community including artists, musicians, writers and craftspeople.
Our five camping pods are made just down the road from local timber by “shepherdshutsandhuts”. With an internal floor space being eight feet wide by nine feet long each pod can sleep up to four adults. Our pods are set just behind the pub within our very own secluded “pod pound” that is covered in locally sourced bark chippings.
Each pod has been insulated to enable them to keep warm in the colder months and cool in the warmer months. To the front there is a lockable double glazed door providing natural light and to the rear a small circular double glazed window that not only provides natural light as well but it also helps to keep the living space ventilated and aid a “through draft” on those hot summer days.
All our pods are connected to mains electricity to provide internally a small wall mounted heater, two double sockets and a single spotlight. To finish internally there is a roller blind on the front door and a carpet to cover the flooring. Externally there is a spotlight on the front porch as well as security lighting that illuminates the “pod pound” at night.
With our camping pods being in such a great central location visitors can enjoy their outdoor activities such as mountain biking, walking, cycling, angling or just to have the opportunity for chilling out in a glorious natural setting with the birds singing or the stars above your head.
Visitors are able to enjoy the romance of camping without the stress of pitching a tent and enduring the “Great British Weather”. Known by its nickname of “glamping” the appeal of the camping pod is that it is essentially camping but, without the tent. You may still ask yourself why should we go glamping, well, here are just some of the reasons why you should try it here at The Kings Head….
- everything is already set up when you get there, you just move straight in
- all you need to bring is your own camping mat and bedding
- you avoid the adverse effects of driving rain or the chore of taking down and drying wet tents
- there is no wind whip or flapping to keep you awake at night
- you have more privacy and security
- you can enjoy all the benefits of an insulated structure in both the winter and summer
- Option of having heat, light and other electrical devices
- and last but not least it offers affordable accommodation in the centre of a fabulous town
Within the “pod pound” there is also our very own purpose built toilet block that houses a ladies and gents toilet complete with a washbasin and a communal shower cubicle.
Our current tariff, based on two people sharing is £35 per camping pod per night with an additional £5 per person thereafter. This tariff is consistent throughout the year, however maybe subject to change.
